In the 1860's many hundreds of Limburgers left their home country to find a better living in North-America.

At information meetings, organized by agents of the shipping companies, many were tempted to take this big step. To add to the temptation, in 1862 the US government proclaimed the Homestead Act, which promised 160 acres of undeveloped land to a person 21 years of age or over, being US citizen and one had to work on the land for 5 years. After those 5 years, the land would be theirs for next to nothing - they only had to pay 10 dollars of administration costs.

This webpage is based on my interest in the accomplishments and hardships of these emigrant families. I wish to share the information I have gathered in all my research - since 1992 - with you.
