Artist Distinguished for his Church Paintings Passes Away at the Age of Eighty-One.

Gottfried Frohe, a Buffalo artist distinguished throughout the country for his church paintings, passed away yesterday at his home, 216 Broadway, after an illness of several weeks.
Mr. Frohe was born in Holland 81 years ago, and came to this country with his wife in the early '60s, making his home in this city for the remainder of his life. Although especially known for his religious paintings, Mr. Frohe was talented in other directions, and subjects of his have won awards in numerous exhibitions in Buffalo and elsewhere. His paintings and decorations are to be found in many of the Buffalo churches, notably St. Louis' and St. Ann's.
Mr. Frohe is survived by two sons, Leo P. and Godfrey M. Frohe, and one daughter, Mrs. Peter Metzen. His wife died several years ago and another son, Mathew, passed away but a few weeks ago. Mr. Frohe was a member of Commandery No. 14, Knights of St. John.
The funeral will take place from the family home on Broadway, Tuesday morning at 8.30 o'clock, and from St. Mary's Church at 9 o'clock.

Godfried married Maria Anna Gertrudis Ritzen, daughter of Pieter Leonard Ritzen and Petronella America, on 13 Aug 1851 in Nuth, Limburg, Netherlands.4 Maria was born on 24 Aug 1822 in Vaesrade, Limburg, Netherlands,5 died on 17 Aug 1902 in Buffalo, Erie County, New York2 aged 79, and was buried in United German and French RC Cem at Pine Hill, Cheektowaga, Erie Co, NY.3
